Sunny days and hot temperatures mean Summer is here!

We are all very fortunate to live in the Niagara Region. What a wonderful place to spend your summer. People have come from all around the world to see the wonder of Niagara Falls, and the history of Niagara on the Lake. In one region, we have roadside fresh fruit and veggie stands, fantastic wineries, breweries and restaurants, festivals, beaches, a zoo, picnicking in the parks and so much more.  There is truly so much to appreciate in the Niagara Region and summer brings a variety of activities our way – something for almost everyone.

But, as we say each year, while we all look forward to summer for great weather, our ‘staycation’ and vacation time, we also have to do our summer maintenance chores.

Now that it’s been said, it doesn’t have to bring you down.  This is the one season Niagara has, where being outside is preferred and most of the chores, just make our outdoor living better.  So, if you take a bit of time each day to go through the summer home maintenance checklist until you get all of the items done, it may not seem like you’re even doing chores—perhaps you can look at it as just preparing for a party or improving your tan. Regardless of how you approach summer maintenance chores, you need to protect your home – it’s likely your biggest investment.

As we often hear, ‘many hands can make lighter work’, so try to get your whole family involved and turn the chores into a game or a competition.  If everyone is having fun, is it really work?

Always keep in mind that home maintenance issues can be unique to your property or home, so a general summer maintenance checklist is just a starting point.  Take a really good look at your specific house and address the items that need attention or repair. There may be items that are not included in a general maintenance list.  Regular inspections and proper home maintenance may save you a lot of frustration and money down the road!

If you encounter something you are unsure of or are not qualified to properly fix or replace, call a professional.  You want to make sure that the job is done right and safely.  Some things must be done by a licensed professional (e.g., electrical and plumbing issues, etc.). There are just some tasks that are not DIY projects.
